Averroes (Al-Farabi)

Averroes is depicted in Raphael's fresco with a hat on his head as standing in the left foreground over the shoulder of Pythagoras. Averroes was a great 12th century Arabian philosopher and astronomer who also served as a judge and a physician. He wrote many influential books on jurisprudence and theology. He is regarded as one of the greatest commentator on the work of Aristotle. He is thought to have had a great influence on St. Thomas Aquinas.
