Euclid

Euclid is depicted in Raphael's fresco as standing in the right foreground just below the steps. He is regarded as the foremost mathematician of antiquity. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt about 325 BC. He best known surviving treatise is the Elements in 13 volumes which has survived as a cornerstone of mathematics for centuries. Although it is not all original, it is a masterful compilation of fundamental truths about numbers that is written is a clear and concise manner. It has been published in more than 1,000 editions!
